It’s actually C.H.I.P which makes me think it’s an acronym though I can’t find what it stands for. Nevertheless, it looks pretty awesome. As the title suggests, it’s a computer. Not a full computer, just the main processing unit. It comes with output ports so that you can connect to a monitor or TV, a keyboards, and any other input or output hardware. Best of all, it’s fully Wifi and Bluetooth capable, with powerful built-in RAM and preloaded softwares for browsing the internet, document processing and even playing games. It’s also open source, so you can add thousands of other programs. Right now there’s only 8 days to go so get your Chip soon! They’ve blown past their $50,000 goal and are closing in on $2 million, so you can be sure they’ll start shipping.
The big gripe with the new iPhones is that it’s extremely hard to go back to a previous screen with one hand. The back button is usually on the top left of your screen, and if you’re holding it with your right hand it means you need to stretch your thumb across to access it. If your thumb comes up short, which it most likely will, you might end up hitting the like button your ex’s Facebook post instead. To solve that, Halo Back has a smart screen protector that’s got an invisible back button built-in on the bottom left hand corner. A back button. On the screen. Invisible. How does that work? Honestly, I don’t know. There’s a paragraph in there about electrostatic fields and capacitative screens. My bachelors degree in electronics refuses to translate this into something I can under
Yes, you read that right. There’s actually a spacecraft on Kickstarter! But this is not the Star Wars type of spacecraft. It’s actually a sail like the sails on a ship. And just like a regular sail, the light sail uses photons for the Sun to push it through space. That basically means it doesn’t need any fuel to travel through space because it’s getting pushed out by the sun. It’s all very fascinating and if I can understand it so can you. Be sure to check out the video and see guys like Bill Nye and Neil DeGrasse Tyson explain it. And then go fund it. It’s well on it’s way to $1 million and there’s still 28 days to go!
Sleep hacking is a topic I’ve been interested in for a while now. I’ve been trying to maximize my sleep quality so that I can cut down on the total number of hours I’m asleep. That gives me more time in the day to look at Kickstarter. The Kokoon headphones are the perfect solution. They play music to help you go to sleep faster and cancel out any external disturbing noises. They also come with EEG sensors built-in that track your sleep and an app that shows you the data. When you’re ready to wake, the headphone has a smart alarm to wake you when you’re not in deep sleep. With almost half a million dollars in funding and over 40 days to go, the campaign is going strong. Check it out and get your pledge in if you want one!
Since we’re on the topic of sleep, here’s another sleep hacking product that caught my eye. The SensorWake is the world’s first olfactory alarm clock. It doesn’t wake you with sound. It wakes you with smell! Before you brush it off, you’d be surprised to hear that Google named it one of the top 15 inventions that can change the world. Studies have shown that a powerful scent can wake 99% of people in under 2 minutes. And if you have a stuff nose there’s a regular sound alarm as back up. The clock has just reached its goal of 50,000 Euros and there’s still over a month left in the campaign. Check it out if you feel like waking up to the smell of coffee!
With every new iteration of the MacBook there seem to be fewer ports. Some models don’t have anything apart from the power outlet. What’s are people to do if they need to connect to a projector or transfer files to a memory stick? That’s what the Hub+ is for. It’s basically a hub with multiple ports for USB, display, card readers and charging outlets. You can collect multiple external devices to it and then connect the Hub+ to your MacBook. Pretty useful! The Hub+ has almost hit half a million dollars in funding with an initial goal of $35,000. There’s still 18 days to go so you can get yours too.
The Phree is a pretty awesome little device. It’s basically like a stylus that works on any surface. Literally any surface, even the back of your hand. So instead of limiting your sketches or hand-written notes to your smartphone or tablet screen, you can use a nearby table as your canvas. It doesn’t leave a mark. Instead it uses optical sensors to create a digital trace of what you’re writing and then sends that to your phone, tablet, laptop or TV. So you can jot down someone’s number on the back of your hand without taking your phone out and, like magic, it’s in your phone! You still have a month to get your Phree but most of the early bird discounts have been taken.
I had to include this one because they are Canadian! Still, the Enigmaze is a pretty cool idea. It’s like the Enigma machine (hence the name) in that it allows you to create unbreakable passwords for your various online accounts. Unlike the actual Enigma machine it comes in the form of a hardcover notebook. The real magic lies in the encryption cards which you use to create your password, with an invisible ink marker. And to uncover the password later, you shine UV light on to it. Check out the video to see how it works.
The GoFar is a pretty sick little device that’s sure to optimize your driving. Most drivers waste a lot of fuel with habits like fast acceleration, sudden braking and stop-start driving. The GoFar tells you when you’re driving inefficiently and wasting fuel. Related posts: 13 Free eCommerce Tools to Improve Your Site Today It comes in three parts. There’s the dongle which you plug into a port in your car. That’s does all the data tracking and sends it to the app on your phone, and a third piece that sits on your dashboard and changes color from blue to red when you’re driving poorly. So you get realtime feedback from the dashboard piece, and you can look at the insights and suggestions in the app after your drive. There’s only 5 days left in the campaign so get this o
With summer and camping season upon us, I thought the Fogo came at just the right time. It’s the ultimate adventure gadget and comes with GPS, bluetooth, voice and text messaging, a USB backup battery, a flashlight and lots more. It’s also quite small and fits in one hand. If you’re planning to go on an adventure, take the Fogo along. It just might come in handy! They’ve already passed their goal of $50,000 but there’s still 25 days to go before the campaign ends.
